Your top 3 values

Have you ever completed a value assessment? They are SO important!

Values are the beliefs or motivating attitudes that we uphold with the greatest level of importance.

A quick Google search will show that there are dozens to choose from and you may think it’s impossible to narrow them down to your top 3, but here’s why it can be revolutionizing.

For me, one of my top 3 values is autonomy.

When I discovered just how important autonomy was I had instant clarity on why I’ve always felt like a caged lion when I’ve worked under someone.

I am not a good assistant.

Every decision I make in regards to work I now keep this on the forefront. Will this opportunity allow me the freedom I need to feel fulfilled? Will I have the liberty to self-govern? Is there flexibility in how the work is done?

Another one of my highest values is abundance. I want to work, grow a family, design my home, travel the world, and try a new hobby every few months. I LOVE a good challenge, trying something new and spontaneity.

Knowing this my value of ABUNDANCE was occasionally fooling me into saying yes to something that stripped me of my need for AUTONOMY.

(This is called a conflict in values, but that’s for another post.)

An assessment I do early on with my clients is a values assessment.

It is always so fascinating to see how such a simple tool can provide so much clarity to someone’s life.

Just three values can often show you why you are so fulfilled in some areas of your life and why you feel frustrated in OTHERS.
